London Fashion Week FW19 Highlights

It’s February, it’s fashion month and the second week of the Fall fashion season was, as always, in London. Usually, each fashion week lasts 7 days (that’s why it’s called fashion week!). Normally, it begins on a Friday and ends on the following Thursday. Although I tend to follow fashion weeks very closely, this time I decided to check the shows every 2-3 days. Thus, imagine my surprise when I went online this Thursday and found out that London Fashion Week FW19 has ended 2 days ago! That’s 5 days, folks, not 7!

If I have to be completely honest with you, this year LFW was ridiculously boring! I’m not sure if Brexit affected the demand for designers to come to London and present their Fall collections, or there was some other reason. Regardless of the reason, there were just not a lot of designer collections this year. Hence, I’m sort of glad it ended 2 days early. Nevertheless, I still liked quite a lot of pieces from what was showcased! Also, don’t forget, you can shop all the collections on FarFetch, Net-A-Porter and Harvey Nichols!

Ahead, London Fashion Week FW19 highlights plus a gallery with some of my favourite look!

London Fashion Week FW19 Highlights

  • For Fall, A.W.A.K.E focused on slickness and minimalism. Key pieces included square-quilted leather coats over tailored dresses in a sheer pinstripe fabric. There were also back-to-front black leather pants and elongated-cuff black leather shirtdresses.
  • At London Fashion Week FW19, Chung presented oil-slick patent looks alongside strong-shouldered dresses in rose-embossed jacquards.
  • Another very sleek yet strong presentation from Victoria Beckham. The collection included 70’ inspired pencil skirts, tiny argyle sweaters and big pointed shirt collars.
  • At his Burberry show, Tisci presented a ‘mix ‘n’ match’ collection. It included corseted tops pulled on over a polo shirt, a stretch cycling dress, or tracksuit bottoms. There was also a sequined, corseted lingerie layered over a white T-shirt. The rest of the Fall collection showcased upside-down attachments of padded jackets on tweed suits.
  • Erdem stuck to what he does best at London Fashion Week FW19. There were bubble dresses, sweeping trains and gleaming ostrich-feathered embroideries. Thrown into the mix were also lace tights, tweeds, and kinky leather boots.
  • Speaking of bubble dresses, there were plenty at JW Anderson Fall show. Other items that stood out were the dynamic shirtdress with white-piped overlapping chiffon panels in various colours.
  • For Fall, Rejina Pyo focuses on the details. For instance, hoodie shirtdresses have attenuated volume in the arms. The boots featured turned wooden heels, whereas the jackets had doubled lapels.
  • At London Fashion Week FW19, Emilia Wickstead showcased a very voluptuous collection. The oversized herringbone check overcoats came with huge, sweeping scarves in black leather. The dresses, on the other hand, featured leopard prints and were given plunging backs and necklines.
  • The last collection I liked came from David Koma. For Fall, he presented darted jumpsuits, unzipped maxi skirts and a series of white shearling-trimmed sweaters.
  • There you go, a rather short but sweet summary from this year’s FW London Fashion Week. I wish I could give you more highlights, unfortunately, it was (as I said in the beginning) a very disappointing fashion week. I hope you enjoy the gallery with my favourite looks!
