The History Of Valentino Garavani
Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani was born on 11 May 1932. You know him as Valentino – an Italian fashion designer and founder of the Valentino SpA brand and company. His main lines include Valentino, Valentino Garavani, Valentino Roma, and R.E.D. Valentino. He was born in Voghera, in the province of Pavia, Lombardy, Italy. His mother named him after her screen idol Rudolph Valentino. Garavani became interested in fashion while in primary school in his native Voghera. Later, Valentino moved to Paris to pursue his interest in fashion with the help of his mother Teresa de Biaggi and his father Mauro Garavani. There he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.
In Paris, he had two apprenticeships – with Jacques Fath, then with Balenciaga. After five years, Valentino left Jean Dessès and joined Guy Laroche for another two years. In 1960 he opened a fashion house in Rome on the posh Via Condotti with the backing of his father and an associate of his. On 31 July 1960, Valentino met Giancarlo Giammetti, who would shortly after become Valentino’s business partner. Valentino’s international debut took place in 1962 in Florence. In September 1964, Valentino was in the United States to present a collection of his work. At that time, Mrs. Kennedy wanted to view the collection but could not attend the event. Thus, Valentino decided to send a model, a sales representative and a selection of key pieces from his collection to Mrs. Kennedy’s apartment on Fifth Avenue. Fortunately, Mrs. Kennedy ordered six of his haute couture dresses – all in black and white. She wore them during her year of mourning, following President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. From then on, she was a devoted client and would become a friend.
1990 marked the opening of the Accademia Valentino, designed by architect Tommaso Ziffer. It is a cultural space located near Valentino’s atelier in Rome for the presentation of art exhibitions. In 1998 Valentino and his partner Giancarlo Giammetti sold the company for approximately US$300 million to HdP. On 4 September 2007, Valentino announced that he would retire fully in January the following year. He delivered his last women’s ready-to-wear show in Paris on 4 October. On 7 July 2016 Maison Valentino nominated Pierpaolo Piccioli its sole Creative Director of the Maison.
The RED Valentino Handbag
Valentino R.E.D is the more playful line of the Valentino brand. Standing for Romantic Eccentric Dress, the line is experimenting with signature designs with added ruffles, lace, and bright colours. You can see a wide range of colourful and eccentric bags. There is a variety of printed tote bags such as this RED(V) Stay Free tote bag. Featuring top handles, an open top design and Rockstud embellishments, you can express your fashion sense in a more humorous way. Another type of RED Valentino handbags are the bow-shaped clutches, like this bow front clutch, featuring – YES, YOU GOT IT – a bow detail! There are also sequin-adorned satchels the designs of which are super eye-catching and fun. The R.E.D line also offers handbags and merchandise with smaller price tags. As a Valentino bag can sell from anywhere between $645 to over $4000, it is an appealing line for the younger market wanting to carry an iconic handbag on their arm.
You can shop the available RED Valentino range at Farfetch. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any RED Valentino bag dupes but you can choose one of the other available dupe options. The shoulder bags with colourful embellishments could be quite a good choice if you want to make a fashion statement.

The Rockstud collection also presents many clutch, messenger, and variety of shoulder bags. This particular Valentino collection has also been produced in quilted, hand painted, super studded and other various versions over the years. Nowadays, the Rockstud is regularly seen on the arms of many celebrities.
