The name of Givenchy may be primarily associated with haute couture, but there are also quite a few numbers in the accessories section making the headlines. It didn’t take long for this tote to conquer its audience with its clean and minimalistic approach. Yet again, Riccardo Tisci had outdone himself. With two handles and a shoulder strap, the Givenchy Antigona tote quickly became the new it-bag.
Since then, it has been seen on the shoulders of numerous celebrities. Kate Moss, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Olivia Palermo to name a few. The Givenchy Antigona History & Specifications
Although you’re here for the Givenchy Antigona dupes, I feel sort of obliged to give you a bit of a background on how this iconic tote made it to the market! As I’ve already mentioned at the beginning, the Givenchy Antigona was first introduced in the Givenchy Fall/Winter 2011 collection. It didn’t take long for Riccardo Tisci’s creation to become a must-have accessory. It all started with an idea from the Givenchy’s creative director. The name ‘Antigona’ is inspired by Greek mythology. It comes from the word ‘Antigone’ – a feminine figure with a strong personality. The word also means ‘unbending’, and it was carefully chosen to match the idea behind the bag. Riccardo Tisci had a love for a masculine and feminine contrast. And this contrast is quite visible on the Givenchy Antigona Bag.
Mixed with feminine characteristics and masculine detailing, this tote also has the look of a Classic Boston Bag. With boxy construction, geometric shape and nice curves, it has the classic look of a Louis Vuitton Speedy bag. What sets it apart though are the sharp details. You can clearly see the large modern zipper, the exposed stitching and the uniquely made metal hooks. And who can miss the leather triangle patch with the house’s signature lettering? Furthermore, all of these details are inspired by the military.
Throughout the years, the Givenchy Antigona has been made in calfskin and goatskin leathers. However, Givenchy has also released seasonal leathers like rubberised canvas and nubuck suede. There are also luxury options such as crocodile, ostrich, python and anaconda. When the Givenchy Antigona Bag was initially launched, there were only two sizes to choose from. Small or medium-size – those were the only two options. However, later on, the house added the large size and the mini size (introduced in the S/S 2014 Collection).
